Chief International Editor of CGTN Digital
Marcus Ryder is the Chief International Editor of CGTN Digital. He has over 25 years’ experience working in television and before coming to Beijing in 2015 was the head of BBC Scotland Current Affairs for almost ten years.
He oversaw some of the BBC’s most difficult and sensitive investigations including an award winning investigation into drugs in sport in which the reporter took banned substances to prove he could ‘beat the drug testers’ and executive-produced an award winning BBC Panorama into a possible miscarriage of justice titled “The innocent serial-killer”.
He has won both international awards for his journalism including the Foreign Press Association Media Awards for an investigation into Scotland’s top football club Rangers and a multiple winner of Bafta journalism awards and Royal Television Society Awards.
In 2014, he launched and oversaw the BBC’s flagship nightly political program covering the Scottish referendum.
He champions the issue of diversity in the media and for five years was the Chair of the Royal Television Society Diversity Committee and was a leading advocate to make sure diversity was included in the BBC’s current review.
When not working in journalism he is a keen runner and in 2015 accomplished his dream of running a sub 3 hour marathon.
