Yang Rui

Host of Dialogue

Yang Rui is the host of Dialogue with Yang Rui, the primetime TV news and analysis program on CGTN. Seven days a week, Yang discusses the ideas behind the headlines and interviews heads of states, Nobel Prize laureates and international experts,—the people influencing and implementing policies.

Yang joined CCTVNEWS, the predecessor of CGTN, in 1988 and quickly became the co-host of Focus, the channel’s first English language current affairs show. In 1995 he founded the Channel’s English Language Reporting Team and served as Head of the team. Subsequently he has been the host and managing editor of Dialogue and Global Debate and host of Journey of Civilizations.

Prior to joining CCTVNEWS, Yang worked for China National Radio as a sub-editor for world news.

Dialogue has adopted the catchphrase “Ideas Matter”. As host of the program, Yang is always searching for answers, exploring issues and how to approach them in order to present different ideas and perspectives to his viewers.

He completed a double Bachelor of Arts degree in English and American Literature at Shanghai International Studies University and then went on to complete his Master’s in Journalism and Mass Communications at Cardiff College in the UK.

Yang is the author of three books on media and current affairs and has received numerous awards, including China’s most coveted prize “Best Anchor”. He is a member of CGTN’s Experts Panel on Host and Anchor Affairs.
