China boosts conservation through global and local partnerships

At the China-EU Summit in Beijing on July 24, leaders agreed to link carbon markets and accelerate renewable energy while reaffirming support for the UNFCCC and enhanced 2035 NDCs before COP 30. They also launched joint biodiversity workshops and a China-EU research fund for low‑carbon ecosystem protection. Meanwhile, Ramsar Convention Secretary General Musonda Mumba praised China's wetland leadership, noting that most accredited wetland cities are Chinese and that the 2022 Wetland Conservation Law balances ecology and development. She added that China's wetland initiatives set a global benchmark for sustainable planning. Additionally, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region deployed an artificial intelligence (AI) network of 14 stations in Sanjiangyuan National Park and converted over 6,000 residents into eco‑rangers. Consequently, wildlife populations have risen steadily across 47 reserves covering 412,200 square kilometers.
