World Environment Day 2025: Ending plastic pollution, exploring new worlds, together

This year's World Environment Day 2025 arrives with a global focus on ending plastic pollution – a call for urgent, collective action to protect our oceans, ecosystems and future generations. To mark the occasion, CGTN launches a special series: "Ending Plastic Pollution." In our opening feature, we head to the South Pacific, where island nations are grappling with an environmental crisis they didn't create. While we fight to save Earth, we're also expanding the search for new worlds. A team of Chinese and German scientists has identified a potentially habitable super-Earth, an exciting step forward in the hunt for Earth 2.0. Also this week, a rare pink and purple aurora lit up the skies over northeast China, following a geomagnetic storm triggered by a powerful solar flare that erupted on May 31.
