China unveils top 10 scientific advances of 2025

On March 25, the National Natural Science Foundation of China released the country's top 10 scientific advances of 2025, recognizing breakthroughs in space science, energy, materials, life sciences and information technology. The list was whittled down from an impressive 600 research achievements. The finalists were selected with an eye toward future applications that could have a transformative real-world effect. Speaking of real-world application, China's AI models are moving out of the lab and into corners of life where they can make a difference – in crime prevention, for one. Technology is helping the fight against human trafficking, recently leading to the arrest of a suspect known as "Mei Yi," closing one of China's longest-running child trafficking investigations.
