Messi crowned best men's player of 2022 after sensational World Cup triumph

Lionel Messi was named the men's player of the year at FIFA's annual awards ceremony in Paris on Monday night, capping a surreal year in which the 35-year-old Argentinean scored 27 goals in 49 games. He is the first player in history to win the Golden Ball for best player twice at the World Cup, having netted seven goals in as many games in Qatar to clinch a career-crowning triumph.
