With the extinguishing of the Paralympic Flame at the closing ceremony, the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics has officially concluded.

International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Andrew Parsons officially declared the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics closed at the National Stadium on Sunday night.

The Paralympic Flag was lowered at the National Stadium and handed over to the vice mayor of Milan and the mayor of Cortina d'Ampezzo, the Italian cities that will co-host the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games.

New members of the IPC Athletes' Council presented commemorative gifts to representatives of Games volunteers to express gratitude for their efforts and dedication during the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics.

The closing ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic Games got underway on Sunday in Beijing at the National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest.

Team China announced on Sunday that Yang Hongqiong will be the flag bearer for the closing ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic Games.

Yang, 32, clinched three gold medals – in Para cross-country skiing women's long distance sitting, middle distance sitting and sprint sitting – at the Beijing Games. She also became the first Chinese Para skier to collect three gold medals at a single Paralympics.

The champion skier from southwest China's Yunnan Province had been a wheelchair basketball player before switching to Para cross-country skiing in 2018.

Being a flag bearer is an honor that comes with a great responsibility for Yang. "I will try my best to get the job done perfectly, and demonstrate the vigorous, positive characters of Chinese Paralympians," she said.

The 2022 Winter Paralympics will conclude with the closing ceremony at 8 p.m. BJT at the National Stadium in Beijing. Stay tuned!

The Communist Party of China Central Committee and China's State Council have sent a congratulatory message to the Chinese delegation for its "best in history" performance at the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games, scheduled to be concluded on Sunday. 

The delegation won 18 gold medals, 20 silvers and 23 bronzes at the Games and ranked first in both gold count and overall medal count, achieving the best results in the history of China's participation in Winter Paralympics. 

The delegation has earned glory for China and the Chinese people and made important contributions to the success of hosting the Beijing Winter Paralympics, said the message. 

"The motherland and people are proud of your accomplishments," the message read. 

The delegation members have carried forward the spirit of mission and hard-working, secured participation in all sports at the Games, endeavored bravely to go beyond their limits, engaged in ceaseless self-improvement, united with each other and resorted to unyielding fighting, writing a song of life that features tenacity, optimism and enterprise, said the message. 

The message also commended the delegation members for their ethics and integrity in sports, saying that they learned from athletes all over the world, communicated with them, and enjoyed the Games together with them, demonstrating the morale of Chinese disabled people in the new era. 

"Your excellent performance exemplifies the Chinese sportsmanship, reflects the progress China is making in human rights and national development, and has spurred patriotism from all the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation both at home and abroad," said the message. 

The message called on members of the delegation to strive for even better achievements to help boost para sports in the country, so that they can encourage and inspire people with disabilities to build self-esteem, confidence, strength and independence, face squarely with challenges, and participate in rehabilitation, fitness and sport activities in an active manner.

CGTN's innovative music project 'Music Voyage' saluted athletes with another truly international collaboration titled "Tiger's Eye" as the Beijing 2022 Games come to a close.  

The song was created with Music Voyage's Winter Olympic theme tune "Embrace," which was produced in a groundbreaking relay format by four musicians from around the world during a monthlong collaboration leading up to the opening of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.  

"Tiger's Eye" boasts the musical talent of three more international artists. British singer and songwriter Shaun Gibson wrote lyrics for his masterful adaption of "Embrace" while Katie Sky and James Lee provided powerful vocals.  

To pay tribute to the idea of sportsmanship demonstrated at the Beijing Games in this original song, Gibson traveled to the ski slopes of western China for a firsthand experience. British singer and songwriter Katie Sky, best known in China for her cover of "Big Fish," and American musician James Lee both expressed their excitement in working on a song that honors athletes from the Games.  

Music Voyage hopes "Tiger's Eye" embodies the Beijing 2022 motto: "Together for a shared future."  

At the Beijing Winter Paralympics, Chinese armless alpine skier Sun Hongsheng caught the attention of many, both onsite and online. On day one of the #Paralympics2020, the 28-year-old said his wish had come true by just finishing his route on the men's downhill standing event at the Games, even though he was well outside the medals. 

"To me, that's already a success, because in the past, I often fell over myself during competition," Sun said. "So, finishing the event at the Winter Paralympics is the best ever for me," he added.

Sun lost his arms after an accident involving a power line at the age of six. But he adapted quickly and went to school like other children, learning to read and to write with his feet.

Highly ambitious in sports, Sun joined the Chinese national para skiing team in 2016, which was a huge challenge because skiers normally use their arms for balance. But all the difficulties couldn't stop Sun from chasing his Paralympic dream.

Wang Haitao of Team China made the match-winning play to help China defeat Sweden 8-3 in the wheelchair curling final and win the gold medal at the National Aquatics Centre in Beijing on Saturday.

Zhang Wenjing of Team China gave her "Golden Shuey Rhon Rhon" to her Italian-born coach Dario Capelli after pocketing the silver medal in the women's slalom sitting event at the National Alpine Skiing Centre in Yanqing, Beijing, on Saturday.

Jitske Visser, chairperson of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletes' Council, recalled the progress achieved by the Paralympic Movement at the election of new council members on Saturday.

Croatian Paralympic Committee President Ratko Kovacic visited the Winter Paralympic Village in Zhangjiakou on Saturday. Kovacic, who has attended 10 editions of the Paralympic Games, spoke highly of the facilities and the organizing work of the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics.

He said the event brings people together. "I have a very good impression here. China has done a very successful job in preparation and hosting the Paralympics. I think the volunteers are quite good, and they are kind and helped me solve many problems," he said.

"I think the closing ceremony will be very successful just like the opening ceremony. In this special period of the pandemic, the Games show a feeling of bringing everyone together.

As the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics comes to an end, many athletes who have finished their competitions expressed their happy feelings about the Games.

Benjamin Daviet, French men's Para biathlon sitting gold medalist, talked about the track facilities and venue services. "The track facilities and the service of the venues here are very good, and the building construction is also very beautiful. I had a good experience here, and the athletes' facilities inside are also very complete. I won the gold medal for the first time and I feel very happy."

Josip Zima, Croatia's Para cross-country skiing athlete, spoke highly of the village, environment and track. "This place is very good, both the Winter Olympic Village and the surrounding environment are very good, as well as the track. I will miss it. If there is a chance, I would like to come back again, and then skate a few more times on this track."

Team China retained the wheelchair curling gold medal after defeating Team Sweden 8-3 in the final match of the 2022 Winter Paralympics at the National Aquatics Centre on Saturday.

Four years ago, at PyeongChang 2018, the Chinese team won the event as it was their only gold in that edition of the Winter Paralympics.

Both sides played it safe in the first four ends during which Sweden led 2-1. China got down to business in the fifth end when Zhang Mingliang's deliver locked four points for the team. As Viljo Petersson-Dahl's last delivery for Sweden failed to work, China went back on top 5-2.

Sweden cut the deficit to two in the following end, but Wang Haitao accomplished an excellent double takeout in the seventh, leaving three Chinese stones in the house and extending the lead to 8-3.

Sweden conceded after this end and China were crowned again the Winter Paralympic champions of the event.

"When you do it right, winning the gold is nothing but natural," Wang said.

China's 2022 Winter Paralympic journey in wheelchair curling had a bumpy start with two straight losses. However, the team bounced back aggressively with 10 consecutive wins in the following competitions. They trailed in multiple ends in different matches, but were always able to come back and pocket the final victory.

Their resilience and calmness made them a dominant squad.
