- More than 200 people were killed when an Air India plane bound for London with 242 people on board crashed minutes after taking off from the western city of Ahmedabad on Thursday, authorities said.

-  "The police found one survivor in seat 11A. One survivor has been found in the hospital and is under treatment. Cannot say anything about the number of deaths yet. The death toll may increase as the flight crashed in a residential area," Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik told ANI on Thursday. Earlier, Ahmedabad police said no survivors were expected after the passenger plane with 242 on board crashed, warning of more deaths on site.

- Air India said passengers on the crashed plane included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British, seven Portuguese and one Canadian.

- The Air India plane issued a mayday call and "crashed immediately after takeoff," the Directorate General of Civil Aviation said.

- Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu directed "all aviation and emergency response agencies to take swift and coordinated action."
